No more contention in the land.

No more contention in the land.

I went back and re-listened to the general conference talk by Elder Christofferson, “The Love of God.”

Towards the end of the talk, he quoted from 4 Nephi 1:15, “And it came to pass that there was no contention in the land, because of the love of God which did dwell in the hearts of the people.”

As I was on my morning jog, I asked myself two questions.

One: What would the world look like without contention in the land?

Two: Is it really possible to have no contention?

My answer to the first uniquely came to me. I felt my father in Heaven focusing my eyes and ears on nature. I was able to see and hear the beauty of the earth and the peace it brings to my mind and soul—Everything was created by Him who created us. The world we live on is a reminder to us of what this would look like.

The second answer also came quickly. It was a no-brainer, and I almost felt idiotic for the asking. My answer is found in the scripture above.

It doesn’t seem possible, but it is possible. If we all focus and direct our hearts and minds to love the Lord, we will have no contention.

How do we do this when some do not believe in God and fight against the teachings of Jesus Christ?

Let’s not forget who has the power to soften hearts and minds. There is nothing the Lord cannot do—We saw Him do it with the Nephites and the Lamanites.

Yes, that was after His ministry; however, it’s still possible in today’s world.

Will it happen? That I do not know.

Can it happen? Yes, it absolutely can.

How? Well, the Gospel has been restored to the earth, and we have the authority to act in His name.

If we act in His name, we stand as His representative and we will have the same influencing power to soften the hearts and minds of our brothers and sisters. That means those who do not believe or even those who fight against the Gospel.

If you have a hard time believing me or say I’m crazy, I want you to focus your mind towards the story of Alma the Younger—He was one of the very worst sinners. Alma became a Nephite Prophet.

How did Alam do this? “The Love of God.” He turned his life over to the Lord.

We can do the same.

Hear Him!

The Savior will return and bring peace to our land and love in our hearts. Until then, when he has said “Enough”, we will see increasing contention and evil. We need to walk the higher road and let our countenance be a light, but we know what is ahead and will be strengthened past what we now think we can possibly endure.
