You miss all the shots you don’t take.

You miss all the shots you don’t take.
.
Sometimes I think we feel we need to make every shot we take instead of scoring as many points as we can.
.
There are a lot of opportunities our Heavenly Father has in store for us during our mortal existence. We will never know what our capabilities are unless we are willing to take shots. “Fear not, though the enemy deride; Courage, for the Lord is on our side.”
.
Sure, we are going to miss some shots, but we are also going to make many; however, If we don’t take any shots, we miss them all and will never know what would have happened if we tried.
.
This is not to say we need to experience with the adversary. We still need to make wise decisions and consult with the Lord in our activities.
.
The Lord wants us to be self-reliant and be able to make certain decision or take shots without His assistance. We don’t need to counsel with the Lord if we need to buy a cart of groceries (at least I don’t).
.
How do we know when to take the shot?
.
We can lean to President Oaks comment he made in April 2019, “We make better choices and decisions if we look at the alternatives and ponder where they will lead.”
.
He doesn’t say don’t take the shot, but if you are too far out and are going to miss, move closer to the basket or get to a better angle. It’s okay to re-assess your shot. The goal is to take the shot and be confident in doing so.
.
We can also see it as this: a shot we don’t take is an opportunity for the adversary to score on us. Especially when it comes to learning the Gospel.
.
As we rise above adversity, our weaknesses are turned into strengths.
.
Hear Him!
