Do you have desires to serve God?

Do you have desires to serve God?
.
If you have that desire, that burning desire, you will be called to the work.
.
It doesn’t matter if you are set apart as a missionary or not. The 4th section of the Docrtine and Covenants doesn’t state “This is only for missionaries who are set apart.”
.
The 4th section and 3rd verse specifically states “If ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work.”
.
What are your desires? Do you want to serve the Lord or not? It’s not rocket science. We can either find the desire to serve Him and be valiant in our service, or we can sit idle and do nothing. It’s our choice.
.
I remember being asked what I wanted to do after my mission. I always wanted to serve the Lord in some shape or form; I just didn’t know what that would look like.
.
As I look back, 13 years ago, I chose to join Law Enforcement. It comes with a similar guide as I had as a missionary. Part of being a missionary was being disciplined and being motivated and having the desire to do the work.
.
They both have the same “desire,” as we read about in verse three. I served God as a missionary, and I serve Him as a Police Officer.
.
I respond to assist His children, and I help others the best I can. I have a desire to serve Him in all that I do. Not just on Sunday when we gather.
.
I never realized how significant my role as a Police Officer would be. I had a taste of what I wanted my career to be when I was a missionary.
.
So what did I do? I didn’t come home and sit idle. I came home with a desire to continue to serve Him. The call to be a police officer or enlist in the military is not the answer for everyone; I understand that.
.
However, the call to serve the Lord is the answer for everyone! Pray for that desire and when that desire comes, embrace it and never let it go!
.
“O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day.”
.
Hear Him!
