What’s more important?

What’s more important?
.
As you think of your commitments, you’ve made to the Lord, what in your life is more important to you than keeping those commitments?
.
I listened to a talk today and the following statement was made, “we will not be safe until we have given our hearts to the Lord—until we have learned to do what we have promised.” Elder F. Burton Howard.
.
As members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there are many promises and covenants we make. The standards we uphold may seem too challenging to the expectation of the world.
.
Many members of our faith disagree and argue these standards—they simply do not understand. They have not learned to do what they have promised or covenanted with the Lord.
.
The promises and covenants YOU have once made are not up for debate because YOU decide they should be re-evaluated. Do you hold a temple recommend?
.
The church released updates to these questions January 2020 and can be found on the church website for review.
.
Here is a question where there is much debate among the members. “Do you keep the covenants that you made in the temple, including wearing the temple garment as instructed in the endowment?” This question is not up for debate. It’s a yes or a no.
.
What in your life is more important than keeping that covenant? Have you learned to do what you promised? No one else but you made that commitment to the Lord.
.
Here is another question. “Do you strive to be honest in all that you do?”
.
What in your life is more important than keeping that covenant? Have you learned to do what you promised? No one else but you made that commitment to the Lord.
.
There was a modification to another highly debated question amongst members. “Do you understand and obey the Word of Wisdom?”
.
Not only are we asked to obey the Word of Wisdom, but we are asked if we understand that which we are being asked to obey.
.
What’s more important to you? Obeying your covenants and being obedient so you can hear Him or argue and becoming frustrated because you have yet to learn what you have promised the Lord you would do?
.
Be safe in the Lord by understanding and keeping the commitments you promised Him. Hear Him!
