Do the right thing at the right time.

Do the right thing at the right time.
.
I remember being left behind as my brother and our friends left on their Latter-day Saint missions. I was always the youngest of our group and the last to go on my mission.
.
As I was preparing to leave on my mission, my brother and my friends were just about to return home. It was almost a four-year overlap that my older brother and I didn’t see each other.
.
This was a difficult period in my life. My brother and I are eighteen months apart in age, and we were and remain very best friends to this day.
.
One of the most important things I’ve learned through that process was this, “In all the important decisions in our lives, what is most important is to do the right thing. Second, and only slightly behind the first, is to do the right thing at the right time.” Elder Oaks.
.
My brother and my friends chose to do the right thing for themselves. My older brother served in the Kenya, Nairobi mission; my little brother served in the Chile, Rancagua mission. I served in the Florida, Orlando mission.
.
For us, it was the right timing. For others, it may have been a different situation.
.
Elder Oaks, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, was unable to serve a proselytizing mission for the Church. He went to war with the North Korean Army at the age of 17.
.
He wanted to serve a mission with his wife and planned to do so, but the Governor called him to the Supreme Court of Utah. He planned to do so with his wife after his time on the Supreme Court, but he was called the Quorum of the Twelve.
.
“My words are sure and shall not fail…but all things must come to pass in their time” (D&C 64:31–32).
.
We are asked to have faith. So, as we have faith, let’s have faith in the Lord’s timing.
.
Elder Maxwell said this, ”Since faith in the timing of the Lord may be tried, let us learn to say not only, ‘Thy will be done,’ but patiently also, ‘Thy timing be done.”
.
We lose loved ones, and it may seem too soon for us, but it’s the Lord’s timing. We don’t have to understand; we just need to trust Him. Hear Him, and His timing will make sense.
.
He came into the world at the right time, and He will return at the right time.
