Death is not the End

Death is not the end.
.
I think the word ”death” is a terrible terminology. We put the fear in our minds. The word itself can sound terrifying. It can mean extinction, destruction, and the end of life.
.
Why wouldn’t that sound terrible and sad? The word itself just sounds awful.
.
So, what happens after death? Where do we go, and what are our loved ones doing?
.
First, we need to understand what Death means. Death separates “the spirit and the body, which are the soul of man.” D&C 88:15.
.
We are all going to go through a mourning process. How we individually do that is different.
.
President Nelson said, “The only length of life that seems to satisfy the longings of the human heart is life everlasting…. Moreover, we can’t fully appreciate joyful reunions later without tearful separations now. The only way to take sorrow out of death is to take love out of life.”
.
The Prophet Joseph Smith spoke at a friend’s funeral and stated this: “When we lose a near and dear friend, upon whom we have set our hearts, it should be a caution unto us. … Our affections should be placed upon God and His work, more intensely than upon our fellow beings.” (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 216.).
.
I know some may think death is the end, and that’s why the word is scary.
.
It’s not scary or terrifying if you know about eternal life. We continue to live and enjoy the goodness and mercy of God and His Son, Jesus Christ.
.
President Nelson again teaches us: “Life does not begin with birth, nor does it end with death. Prior to our birth, we dwelled as spirit children with our Father in Heaven.
.
Returning from earth to life in our heavenly home requires passage through—and not around—the doors of death. We were born to die, and we die to live. (See 2 Cor. 6:9.) As seedlings of God, we barely blossom on earth; we fully flower in heaven.”
.
That’s why our message is so special. We believe in a wonderful plan. This is called the Plan of Salvation. We can return to our loved ones, and we will live, hug, hold, and kiss them again.
.
Death is not to be feared. Hear Him, and you will find peace in the term “death.”
