The Captain of The Poor

The Captain of the poor.
.
Have you walked amongst the poor, the homeless, the downtrodden, and the disadvantaged? I have.
.
For the last three years of my career, I have mingled with the hungry, worked with those seeking refuge, and learned from their circumstances.
.
I’ve learned there are two types of individuals—service resistant or service compliant.
.
I understand every situation is different for every individual. There may be many reasons for being service resistant instead of service compliant; however, my duties are to offer services to everyone and continue offering—never giving up.
.
People change over time. Many of us have a different perspective one day and a completely new perspective the next. At a present time, we may not be open to advice, suggestions, or assistance, but a month or a year down the road, we change our minds.
.
Why give up? Did Christ give up? Where would he be if he was here today? I’ll tell you where he would be. He is the Captain of the poor. That’s where you find Him.
.
There are many neighbors, friends, and sometimes family members who fit many of these categories. How will we know this unless we are serving them?
.
Elder Holland told the story of a family in dire need of help—life or death situation. ”They were out of food, having only one spoonful of sugar and a saucerful of cornmeal remaining in their possession—Mom made mush out of it.
.
When that small offering was consumed by her famished family, she washed everything, cleaned their little dugout as thoroughly as she could, and quietly waited to die.
.
Not long thereafter the sound of a wagon brought Mom to her feet. It was their neighbor. He said he had a feeling they were out of food, so on his way into town he’d had a sack of grain ground into meal for them.
.
Shortly thereafter another man arrived with two bushels of meal on his shoulder. He told the mom he’d been extremely busy but the Spirit had whispered to him that her family was suffering, so he dropped everything and came running.”
.
How in-tune with the spirit are you & are you following the Captain of the poor? Hear Him. One day, they may become service compliant. Never give up!
