WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU?

What kind of person are you?
.
Have you done any good in the world today? Sometimes we don’t realize the impact we have on others, in our communities, or the world.
.
I was reminded yesterday of a time when I made a difference. I don’t recall the event, but I was grateful to have this wonderful person re-share an act of kindness. I’d like to share part of it.
.
”When I found out I was pregnant halfway through senior year, and by someone that was… let’s say, less than savory by reputation, at the time… everyone talked.
.
People were brutal. My life was literally turned upside down—consequences of my own choices, of course. But, a hand full of people were there for me, regardless.
.
I saw you at the gas station one night; we were both getting gas. You greeted me by saying, “I heard you’re expecting a baby—I remember you had health problems, and you thought you might not ever be able to have kids. How cool. Congratulations!”
.
”You were the ONLY person who said that. My friends were super supportive, but you were the only one, ever, that congratulated me on the new life I was bringing into the world. I don’t forget that stuff.
.
Those conversations like we had at the gas station we’re what helped me through one of the darkest times of my life. The kindness and compassion of others is what saved me—it changed me. Compassion to this day is one of the most important things to me in this world.”
.
I ask again, what kind of person are you?
.
As a teenager, I lived two types of ”Mike’s.” The one I knew I wasn’t, and the one I knew I should be. I’m grateful I was the ”Mike” I should have been that night. Other days and nights, I know I wasn’t, and I reach out a sincere apology to those I may have set terrible examples for.
.
We try to fit in with the culture, friends, and society. Sometimes that seems much safer than following Jesus Christ. I’m still fighting that battle every day. That’s why it’s so important to hear Him. Study, pray, and listen.
