Wait for a second, Dad!

Dad, wait for a second!
.
The older my son gets, the more love I have for him, and the harder it is for me to say goodbye.
.
He wanted to spend the night at his grandma’s, so we agreed, and I took him over. The entire ten-minute ride, I kept gazing back at him through the rear-view mirror. I noticed how big he was getting, and how much I love my son.
.
As we drove and I looked back at him, I tried to imagine what he was thinking about as he looked outside the car window.
.
We arrived at grandma’s house, and he sat close to me on the couch before we departed ways. He held my arm and sat quietly as grandma and I talked.
.
It was time to go, and I gave him a big hug and kiss goodbye. He said,” I love you, Dad,” as I stood up and made my way to the door—I’m a big soft heart, and I have always had a hard time leaving my kids, especially my son. He’s my best friend.
.
I made it to the front door and as I opened the door, I heard his little voice yell, ”Dad, wait for a second.” Then I heard his little feet sprint across the floor and turn the corner. He ran into me like a ton of bricks and gave me a big hug. He reassured that I knew he loved me by saying, ”I really love you, Dad.”
.
I looked down to see he was fighting back the tears, as he knew I’d be leaving him overnight. I knelt down and gave him a big hug and kiss and reassured him the same thing, ”I love you, my buddy boy.”
.
As I drove away, I had a comforting feeling that my son would be just fine. I also had an overwhelming feeling that my Heavenly Father was once in the same position, telling me goodbye before I left for my mortal period on earth. I’m sure it was an extremely emotional time.
.
We don’t remember how that all happened, but we have the scriptures to teach us of the love He has for us. “Let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. … For God is love” (1 John 4:7–8).
.
Just like I knew my boy would be just fine, our Heavenly Father knew we would be just fine, as we ”packed up our bags.” He loves us, and He is perfect. His plan is perfect. He has perfect love.
.
Hear Him, and you will know and feel of His perfect love for you, too.
